October 2016 Review

Over the month of October, oil and gas leasing on public land experienced a characteristically mild drop. Only 57 leases were authorized over the month, just one more than the 56 leases that were authorized in October 2015. While the number of authorized leases is nearly a third as many as were closed over the month (154) this actually represents a drop in closed leases compared to the 360 leases that were closed in October 2016. Most of this minor shift is accounted for by the comparatively low number of leases closed in Wyoming and Utah compared to October 2015.
